ARROYO de la MIEL CABLE CAR (Benalmadena, Costa Del Sol).

Opened in March, 2000, the cable car system is running successfully and has carried 50% more than the targeted number of passengers.  With the lower terminal at the Tivoli Gardens (a funfair and entertainment centre recently sold to a large Spanish development company who intend to expand and improve the facilities even more)  in Arroyo de la Miel, and the other terminal at the top of Mount Calamorro overlooking the sea-side resorts of Benalmadena and Torremolinos and the country inland, the ride is 2,65  kilometres covered in about 12 minutes, rising to 769 metres. There is an very good restaurant at the top, as well as a snack bar.  Many ride up and walk back down the tracks (used by the donkeys that carried cement/sand up the mountain for the construction of the cable support towers) for exercise. About another further fifty meters up may be walked on concrete paths to give fantastic views, inland and to the south across the Mediterranean.  On a clear windy weather day (less heat haze), the North coast of Africa and Gibraltar may be seen.  The up to 63 x 4-seater cabins will ensure that there should be no long queues at peak times or waiting to fill a large cabin.  There is also a leisure area at the top along with a display of birds of prey, eagle owls (you should see the size of them) and they give a flying display that will scare those who hated "The Birds" Hitchcock film.  The ride cost is about €10 with discounts for kids and pensioners.

SPAIN’S WEATHER

The summer season officially runs from June through to the middle of September, although the weather is generally very good throughout the year.   The summers are dry, and very hot for Europeans in July and August: the winters windy and sometimes wet, with occasional flooding as water rushes down to the coast from the mountains.  Wide river beds that are dry in summer, become torrents of water.
