We (Brian & Beverley Deller) left South Africa in 1999 after living
there for 25 years (we even took out citizenship, full of optimism just
before the new South Africa became a reality).
After five years of living in fear for our lives and property from when the new
government came to power, and witnessing laws being passed and actions
taken by the new people in power that were as
racialistic as the former
White government's (but at least they were
honest about it), we left and have now settled in Spain.
We have escaped especially the
serious and very violent
crime and corruption at all levels of society
and government. Putting it frankly, we
were tired of hearing many people of all colours and cultures being murdered, raped
or robbed, some of whom we personally knew, and decided that it was only a matter of time
that we, despite our
legally carrying guns everywhere and practising at the range regularly, could
easily become victims, or being forced to kill someone who was attacking
us. We have read that there has been more Black
people murdered since the ANC came to power than in all the years
of Apartheid. But does this include the many that were murdered (necklacing
at public meetings to scare the blacks into obeying their wishes and
also in their terror camps,
etc.) by the ANC to ensure that they were the ones to win power?
There were also other just as savage terror organisations such as tte
Pan African Congress who were as bad.
Since 1999,
nothing much has improved, most crime is worse according to official and
United Nations figures issued, some by
the Democratic Alliance Party, the official opposition, who have
disproved the government's official figures as being "fudged"
*.
However, it is now obvious that South
Africa has to tread the same path that States to the North have trod for
up to 60 years. Officially, South Africa is the second worst
country in the world for bring murdered, especially with a gun.
And currently it is getting worse.
Latest Official Crime Statistics for 2007
The
Laws there can now be deemed as racial and iniquitous as in the days of
Apartheid, with the difference that many more do not have work (unofficial
unemployment rate is 40% +, official is 26%) or any
semblance of a good life except for the new political elite and those
who have been awarded high position in industry because of the new laws. Only the rich
(many of the ANC leaders became millionaires
almost overnight), and the gap between the rich and the poor is
ever-widening. President Mbeki has even "wasted" a reported US$ 43-million
(plus high running costs) of
tax-payer's money on his personal luxury Boeing jet. Politicians have
been censured for using
tax-payer's cash by using government facilities for holidays, etc. We
could go on, but history, in our opinion, is
sadly going to repeat itself in
South Africa.
Billins has been spent on unecessary weapons
when the cash was need for housing and other social needs. So much
for the ANC's promises, "Vote for us and we will give you the
moon." Par for the course though!
Because of these Laws, many of the young
White South African intellectuals especially those just graduating from university, who would greatly add value to the future of South
Africa, are being forced to find work elsewhere in the world due to
racially biased laws.
"Yes, we are desperate for staff of your
calibre, but cannot
employ you as you are white"
In
fact, I am of the opinion that the ANC's greater percentage of the vote
in the last election was because many of those who could and who would
have voted for the DA the primary opposition party, have "unofficially" left SA and, unlike similar
times in other
countries, were forbidden to vote unless they were actually in South
Africa.
But wait, there is now a concerted effort, a
campaign which is failing (naturally because of the failing and
dangerous SA), to get
those who have left and are much needed to return, but no overturning of
the racial laws that forced them to leave in the first place is planned.
We know of two people who went back spending their life savings to do so, were
bitterly disappointed and now cannot afford to leave again.
We decided on Spain for the same reason
why many
of the British holiday here and eventually settle in Spain - the climate and it is (was) relatively cheap to move
to: it is in the EU and the Spanish people generally are very nice.
Many others are settling here for the same reasons.
Readers must not think that
we are racialists, the common accusation for anyone who criticises
anybody who does not praise non-whites, with all sorts of excuses for
their proven faults, and criticise Whites as being evil and responsible
for the African black's situation, even 50 years after they have their
"freedom" in many cases.
Problems can only be solved by recognising the causes. There are many South Africans of all colours and cultures who are good
people who just want a good and happy life but are denied it by the many
new greedy, incompetent, and some who are downright evil leaders.
For example, did
President Mbeki really need that luxury personal US$43 plus Boeing jet? There
are plenty of aircraft to use in the national airline South African Airlines
(SAA), and even the prime minister of the UK uses mainly commercial aircraft to move around,
even though the country can easily afford a luxury jet aircraft for its
P.M.
I think not when the cash could have been used for the HIV/AIDs
programme, or any other cause to improve the lot of the suffering
by the poor in South Africa. But as the SA Minister of Health has publicly
announced, "Beetroot and garlic will cure AIDS".
Just as the witchdoctors
(sangomas) have told HIV suffers that "making love to a virgin" will get
rid of your AIDS. So children even as young as three months have
been raped, after all, they must be virgins..
And what about Zimbabwe? How can a so-called
leader that Mbeki is supposed to be, turn his back on many millions of
suffering citizens there whose only apparent crime is they want
democracy and a genuine chance to get rid of the evil despot that Mugabe
has become. And to eat, not starve to death. But Mbeki will not help. Why, because in my
opinion, he has the
same plans for South Africa and wants a precedent set first where the
World will not interfere! Already the farmers are being
systematically murdered, two thousand since the ANC came to
power, and some farms sold to Black organisations (because they are Black)
are now non-producing and finished. The Zebedelia farm, that
produced 15.000 cases of Citrus fruit a day in season. is a prime
example where it was forcibly sold to locals who mis-managed it so within
18 months it was derelict. The Banks would not even pay out
pensions to those who had worked there for many years before. It had
existed for 80
years, reported to have been started and owned by one family. It is now reported to being managed (2006) by a new white manager
(ex-Zimbabwean) to get it
back to full production.
* The
South African Advertising Research Foundation has reported, through
polling 24 489 people about their experiences of crime in the last year
ending in 2004, and the survey shows that violent crime directly
affected 2,4 million people in 2004, some 300.000 more than in the same
period ending in 2003. This means that possibly, 80 in every
1 000 people were the victims of violent crime. Rape, with the
high incidence of HIV/AIDS in SA, can be an effective death sentence
especially for the babies.
Many women and young men do not even bother to report being raped now for there is no point. The official reports (statistics), which have in the past been delayed
by the government sources by up to a year, advised that violent crime
had fallen. But this has been disproved overall for 2007.
Now
recently in July 2006, Norwich Union, one of the UK's largest insurance
companies, has analysed its claims for travel insurance and found that
South Africa is the world's worst country to visit
for all types of crime, based on claims by their clients.
The South African government claims that
crime is getting better are all unjustified, even by African standards.
Of
course, Apartheid will be blamed for centuries to come because the ANC
are now re-writing the history books there, but the
intellectuals know that this is not true by looking at the rest of Africa
after "freedom day", many still holding out the "begging-cups" after
up to 50 - 60 years of freedom.
As the widow of Alan Paton, the
author of Cry the Beloved Country, now says the same but for a different
reason to her author husband. She has left South Africa as it is far too dangerous.

Brian & Beverley Deller
